Chemistry notes Part 2
Please download the second part of the notes for the chemistry unit. To experience success in this part of the unit it is crucial for students to master the naming chemical compounds skill.
We will focus on the Law of conversation of mass (matter), balancing chemical reactions, and writing balanced reactions for the following reactions:
Synthesis
Decomposition
single displacement
Double displacement
Combustion
Neutralization
Here is a video that introduces the Law of Conversation of Matter....the foundation to the rest of this unit.

Dec 1 class - Intro to Molecular compounds
From notes, pages 48-50. Also complete page 4 from the following document. Download here.
It is very important for students to develop a strategy for naming mixed compounds . Remember, circle the first element - if it is a metal, you are dealing with an ionic compound. If it is a nonmetal, you are dealing with a molecular compound.

Great Lakes?
3. Does the Zebra mussel have a niche
now that it is a part of the Great Lakes ecosystem? Explain.
4. Compare the article with the video we
watched in class. How do they compare?
5. Does the Zebra mussel offer any
advantages to its new ecosystem? Explain. What are some of the disadvantages?
6. In your opinion, do you think the invasiveness
